Kamdhenu

Darsh, a farmer from the old town of Phulia has lost almost everything. All his cows have expired due to famine, and his entire field of makka (Indian corn) have been vandalized by recent locust attacks.

With a wife and son left by his side, he lost all his hope of living and thriving once again.

It was raining in his village, the rain water droplets were touching his mud hut’s roof.  Water was showering, all over his once green pastured agriculture field, where nothing remains today!

Dejected was Darsh, and so was his expectation from life. He was looking at the blue sky and the beautiful rainbow, which has just come up and promised magic to the children playing around his hut. It was evening!

The sun was setting down, while spreading its orange tint all over. The farmer today was searching with moist eyes the last end of the rainbow, which was sparkling beyond.

And! To his surprise as the evening sun was scattering its golden twilight around a white cow with beautiful blue eyes started coming towards Darsh. It seemed that she was coming from the corner of the rainbow.

Darsh was startled. She came courteously towards him and said – Hambaaaaaa.

She was a beautiful white cow with bluish tint around her, Darsh exclaimed – Kamdhenu!

Darsh caressed her and called her wife Radha and son Babu outside. The blue eyes of the cow were glittering with love, which was indeed unconditional!

Time stopped and for a moment everybody realised, they are blessed and no more of cursed life will follow them.

Moments passed into days and days became weeks!

Darsh is now a wealthy farmer, everything in his life has changed. From food grains to riches he had everything.

However, once Darsh’s friend Gopal, a zamindar visited him. His eyes fell at Kamdhenu.

And realizing her worth, Gopal gave a proposal of buying the cow from Darsh in lieu of favoring him with a farming land- thrice the size of Darsh’s present corn field and replacing it with Indigo farming which will bring more profit.

Darsh fell into his trap, but he was upset in giving away Kamdhenu. Ruminating on this he felt asleep that night.

In his dream he saw Kamdhenu coming to him, she put her muzzle on his shoulder and said-

Till the time when you would have got up tomorrow morning, I shall have left your home, but I promise to visit your farm, spreading my blue tints which will radiate blessings into your farmland.

I came from the corner of the rainbow and will go back through the moon-lit path beside your farm’s river, which goes towards the moon.

May be some other Darsh, somewhere is waiting for me; to bless him with unconditional love and bring magic in his life!
