‘Happy New Year, Sardaar ji!’
Paromita, the doting Bengali fiancée of Gurpreet wished him.
Gurpreet had come down to the Gurudwara and was doing Ardaas, and Paromita peeped up from behind him!
Paromita and Gurpreet were about to get married next week. And Paromita lovingly called Gurpreet ‘Sardaar ji.’
Paromita has been trying to bring back the smile on Gurpreet’s face, which used to brighten up her life every day, as Gurpreet used to be a very happy soul.
Paromita knew Gurpreet loved her, but Patiala was Gurpreet’s reason of happiness.
Ardaas
Patiala was Gurpreet’s pet dog and was gifted to Gurpreet by his mother before she left the world one year ago. Patiala has been with Gurpreet since, like his own kid brother.
Paromita had long fallen in love with Gurpreet, but was not able to express her feelings. She used to draw many artistic cards and sketches of Gurpreet and keep all of them in a chocolate shaped casket in her room.
Paromita and Gurpreet were working as doctors in a hospital. She had met Gurpreet there.
Paromita was even close to Patiala. In fact, it was Patiala who helped Paromita get her Sardaar ji!
Once Paromita invited all the doctors of the hospital on her birthday. The birthday party began but Paromita’s eyes were searching for Gurpreet.
Patiala came running towards Paromita and started playing with her. It was true that in a very short time these two have started sharing a close bond.
The Bengali parents of Paromita have prepared many sweet dishes and variety of starters including tasty delicacies and fish.
All were enjoying the occasion, and it was seen that meanwhile Patiala had somehow grabbed the chocolate shaped casket in his mouth from Paromita’s room and started running towards Gurpreet.
And before Paromita could even react, he reached Gurpreet, all the cards and sketches fell down on the floor and Gurpreet was amazed to find Paromita’s heart’s untold secret.
All guests hooted and clapped merrily in this joyous celebration. And thus, Patiala did the matchmaking of Gurpreet-Paromita!
Gurpreet was remembering all this, while offering his Ardaas in Gurudwara. He opened his tearful eyes holding Paromita’s hand and said, ‘I miss Patiala, will he not come back? It is a month now, we will get married in a week but…’
Paromita realised she is the heart of Gurpreet, but Patiala is his happiness.
A month back Patiala was admitted in an animal hospital for heart surgery, the doctors informed Gurpreet over phone that Patiala has run away from there post his surgery and now is nowhere to be found.
Finally, the day of marriage came. It was also Gurpreet’s birthday. Though the marriage was supposed to happen in a Gurudwara, Paromita dressed up as a Bengali bride at her home. She was getting ready to come to the marriage venue!
Ardaas
It was early morning, when Paromita called up Gurpreet and said, ‘Sardaar ji, Happy birthday, I will be driving and reaching you in some time; and yes I am going to get your birthday gift too!’
The marriage preparations began, Gurpreet was all dressed as a Sikh groom. All guests were busy in the preparations.
A considerable amount of time was passed and Paromita did not arrive. Her parents have already reached the venue, they were also waiting for their daughter. The guests now became restless.
All of a sudden Paromita’s mother’s phone rang. She put the phone on speaker.
‘Is it Mrs. Banerjee? We are calling from the police station. Your daughter has met with a severe car accident half an hour back, while she was driving. And we are sorry to say that she is no more!’
All the guests present there suddenly stopped their talking. A strong silence gripped the entire hall inside Gurudwara.
Gurpreet stood still, unable to move!
Unexpectedly a man came inside the Gurudwara holding Patiala in his lap and asked, ‘Who is Mr. Sardaar ji over here?’
Gurpreet came running towards him and asked him, ‘Who are you?’
The man replied,’ I came here to offer my prayers in the Gurudwara. A girl dressed in Bengali bride attire came towards me and requested me to hand over this dog to Sardaar ji inside the Gurudwara and wish him Happy Birthday! She left after that.’
The man said this with a confused smile, as he didn’t know what to do next.
Gurpreet took Patiala in his arms and rushed outside, but there was no one to be found!
